Including History in Healthcare

Wayne Glowac

The government is finally starting to act on e-health; check out this article from Yahoo news. It has already started taking action with legislation promoting electronic medical records, but this example means more. Legislators are finally recognizing that cutting costs isn’t going to be as simple as putting health records online. It’s about making the process easier and more effective at the same time.

That’s why this program is so effective. When doctors have a complete family health history, they can treat their patients with a bigger picture in mind. With more information, they can offer more preventive care, which ultimately cuts costs for both providers and patients. It improves efficiency and can help prevent errors and omissions. Preventive also care works as a tool to educate patients, and make them better consumers. It’s a win-win.

Let’s hope this thinking stays at the forefront as we see our government work on a better healthcare system.
