"Change" Has Been Elected
Dean Halverson
After what seems forever, the election is over. President-elect Obama will take the reigns along with a Democratic majority in January. What will this mean for the future of healthcare in the U.S.? Simply, the Obama healthcare plan calls for Universal Coverage that would basically place another 24 million people on the Medicaid roles.
There are two significant questions that result. How will we pay for those additional lives to be covered? Can the provider system survive another 24 million Medicaid patients under current reimbursements? The answer to these questions could change the face of coverage and healthcare. Only time will give us the answers we need.
